For me, Autumn is by far the best season of all. I love the feeling of leaving hot sticky days behind, seeing the leaves change colour, buying a new pair of boots (and perhaps a coat too!!!) and sitting all cosied up with a pumpkin spiced latte and a good book.
My love of Autumn is so strong that last September, my husband and I took a 2 week road trip round New England. We became 'leaf peepers' and explored the changing foliage through Vermont, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. The American's go all out with their seasonal decorations with so many beautifully decorated porches to spot in Boston and we stopped off at a few farm's in Vermont where you could take a tractor ride through the pumpkin fields with a hot cider and apple donut!
This was a cute bakery in Portland, Maine that sold 10 different flavours of coffee along with all these massive donuts!!!
The new season also brings with it cravings for autumn bakes. Think apples, cinnamon, pumpkins, nutmeg and crumbles. I've had a good search online for some new recipes that I am inspired to make (preferably when its dark and rainy outside, with the heating on high!). Take a look at these links and see if there is anything you want to try.
Cinnamon Duffins - a cross between a muffin and a donut, these cinnamon bites look delicious! This easy to follow recipe uses ingredients most likely already in your cupboards.
Gingerbread Loaf - I bet this smells amazing when its baking in the oven - all those warming spices and syrup/treacle.
Brown Butter Pear Cake - Apples get all the attention this time of year, so I like the idea of mixing it up and using pears instead for this warming desert.
Toffee Apple Loaf Cake - This naughty treat looks like something my nephews would enjoy!
Pumpkin Snickerdoodles - I've made these soft and chewy American biscuits before (because I loved the name!), but am tempted to try this pumpkin spiced recipe. I might purchase this spice mix to use.
Autumn Crunchy Crumble - its a staple of British Sunday lunches, so why not try this autumn inspired desert with a mixture of apples, pears and plums.
