A wonderful idea for a birthday cake is to have a big sponge cake covered in buttercream icing, chocolate fingers all around the side and then topped with either smarties or buttons. I have made a few of these cakes for my nieces and they went down so well, so I thought I would add them to my regular products page! There is something about a colour coded arrangement of sweets that brings out the kid in us. I have lost count of the times people have said "oh no big slice for me please, I'm being good"...then moments later, their hand goes in to swipe a finger or sweet off the side!
I've noticed that although fondant icing covered cakes look really good, not many people actually like eating them. I think you cannot go wrong with buttercream! And the great thing about these cakes are that you can customise them to your child's favourite flavours - white or milk chocolate, buttons or smarties etc!
All I need to know is the age, plain or chocolate sponge, vanilla or chocolate buttercream, milk or white chocolate fingers and their choice of topping: Smarties, MnM's, Frazzles and/or Buttons.
It is a perfect cake to share as it slices up really easily and is also perfect for easy transportation too.
If the cake is for an adult, you can order 2 number cakes together and I can ice them in a traditional style with buttercream on the top and a layer of jam and buttercream in the middle. We can then pick a colour theme and go mad with the fruit and sweet toppings!
