Toffee Apple Cake

Updated: Feb 9, 2021

If you have read my previous posts, you will notice I am a big fan of Autumn and the treats that this season brings. I had arrange a virtual baking date with a friend via Zoom and I spotted this recipe for us to try, as its easy to make and perfect for Halloween weekend!

It is taken from an American recipe where this type of cake is known as a 'dump cake'. That basically means you dump everything from the mixing bowl into a tin, then it's straight in the oven.

It cooks at a low temperature for an hour which allows the apples and toffees to soften into a nice gooey, sticky sponge.

Not only are there toffees in the cake, but there is caramel sauce mixed into the icing and then drizzled on top! Disclaimer......this is a very sweet cake!

It slices up well into squares, and as it is so sweet, a small bite is all you need!

My friend added caramelised apples to the top of his cake, which looks great.

I used this caramel sauce which worked well.

Happy Baking!
